Taymar - Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Cedar top, Year 1982
I bought this guitar in Santiago, Chile back in late 1982 the year of the guitar
construction. Unsuspecting, I entered the “Casa Albeniz” musical
instruments store, they had a row of about eight classical instruments, I
begun to try one by one going, at the attendant's suggestion, from right to
left, suddenly I picked up the Taymar and upon striking a chord, I heard and
felt right on my chest the vibrations of a big beautiful sound, something
I hadn’t experience before that particular time in my life – at that point
the decision had been made and did not bother trying any of the other
available guitars.
This has been my main instrument for many years, indeed for a long time my
only instrument and as a consequence it is my sentimental favorite -
but because of its solid construction and its unique sound qualities, this
guitar is also the benchmark I use whenever I evaluate a new
purchase. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find information about the
constructor's history and haven't seen another Taymar; the label reads
“Guitarras de Concierto, Jose L. Y Salvador Tatay-Marti… Valencia, España,
1982”. I have asked my artisan friends in Granada, and they attest to the good
reputation of this constructor but haven’t been able to offer any further
details.
Sorry, this classical guitar is not for sale.
